The record high temperature of 94 degrees recorded at the Alamosa airport yesterday, Sunday, June 6, 2010, shattered the old record for that date of 89 degrees that was set in 1946. It was the earliest that the temperature has exceeded 90 degrees, the second highest temperature recorded for the month of June, and the third highest temperature on record for Alamosa. The all-time record for Alamosa is 96 degrees, recorded on July 5, 1989. Another record is expected to fall today (June 7) with a forecast high of 90 degrees. The culprit for the hot weather is a strong high pressure system over New Mexico, and moderate westerly winds aloft south of the Jet Steam. Hot weather is expected to continue through Wednesday before moderating towards the end of the week.
