A fire along Medano Creek on the Eastern side of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and the western slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains has shown explosive fire behavior this afternoon. The smoke plume created by this fire has spread over and across the Northern Sangre's, the Wet Mountains and the Wet Mountain valley and over the I-25 corridor. The plume will continue to spread across the eastern Plains of Colorado this evening. People near, and in the smoke plume may experience reduced visibilities and falling ash.
