Supercell Thunderstorm, August 17th

Liz Trent sent us this impressive photo of a supercell thunderstorm east of Pueblo, early in the evening of August 17.  A severe thunderstorm warning for quarter-sized hail and damaging winds was in effect for this storm. The smooth circular appearance of the storm's anvil, and what appears to be mammatus clouds on the base of the anvil, are indications of the storm's strength and the instability of the atmosphere.
