NOAA's Climate Prediction Center now favors ENSO neutral conditions for the 2012-2013 Northern Hemisphere winter. Previous indications were for weak ENSO El Nino conditions this winter but recent trends are proving otherwise. ENSO, or El Nino Southern Oscillation, refers to the year-to-year cycle of sea surface temperatures that can sometimes have an impact on southern Colorado weather. So, what's in store for southern Colorado if we have ENSO neutral conditions this winter? No one knows for sure but here's what has happened in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Alamosa in past ENSO neutral years. Average indicated is for all years not just neutral years.
