Winter Storm Summary Banner

Another snow storm pounded the west Wednesday and Thursday, dropping as much as 30 inches of fresh snow in some areas, closing roads and increasing avalanche danger across the western mountains. The majority of the snow fell early on Wednesday with some snow continuing into Thursday, when it eventually turned to rain in the valleys. Some valley locations recieved almost one half inch of rain on top of the snow! Wind was also a concern with high wind warnings across many areas, mainly east of the divide, but there were some significant wind gusts across the snowy west as well. Might as well get used to it...more wind is expected for the next several days and there is another storm approaching the west on Friday.

The ski areas around Jackson Hole were happy! More fresh powder is great for business. New snow across the Jackson/Teton area ranged from 12 to 30 inches!

With layer upon layer of new snow, several passes were closed for avalanche control. A Special Avalanche Advisory was issued by the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center to highlight the avalanche danger and remains in effect until 7 PM Friday. The above photo was taken by Doug Workman
