JANUARY 2007 – Colder and Slightly Wetter than Normal
A snowstorm on the 11th and 12th dumped around 4 inches of snow in the Lander area when an Arctic
cold front moved through the area. This snowfall was followed by very cold temperatures with the airport
recording a low of 11 below zero on the 12th, 13th and 14th. The 11 below reading was also the coldest
reading for the month. The warmest reading was 51 degrees on the 10th (ahead of the Arctic front).
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 14.5 degrees, 5.8 degrees colder than normal. The total
precipitation for January was 0.67 inches which was 0.15 inches above normal. Snowfall for the
month was 15.3 inches; 5.4 inches above normal.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 29.9 degrees, 4.3 degrees above normal. The lowest
minimum temperature for the month was 19 below zero on the 2nd. The highest maximum temperature
for the month was 57 degrees on the 22nd. The total precipitation for February was 0.18 inches which
was 0.36 inches below normal. Snowfall for the month was 3.4 inches which was only 37 percent of normal.
MARCH 2007 – Third Warmest March on Record, But Went Out Like a Lion
A strong early Spring snowstorm dumped 20-30 inches of snow in the Lander area with up to 6 feet of
snow estimated along the east slopes of the Wind River Mountains. Lander’s average monthly temperature
was 42.2 degrees which was 6.7 degrees above normal and resulted in the third warmest March on record.
Four daily high temperature records were broken this month: 61 degrees on the 7th, 74 degrees on the 12th,
70 degrees on the 13th and 71 degrees on the 17th. A high of 70 degrees on the 18th tied the record high for
the date. No daily record low temperatures were set during the month. The warmest maximum temperature
was 74 on the 12th, and the lowest minimum temperature for the month was 9 degrees on the 3rd. Precipitation
totaled 1.70 inches which was 137 percent of normal. 29.7 inches of snowfall accumulated which was 149 percent
of normal.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 45.0 degrees which was1.1 degrees above normal. A high of 82
degrees on the 29th tied the daily record. The maximum temperature for the month was this 82 degree reading,
and the minimum for the month was 20 degrees on the 11th. The monthly precipitation total of only 0.19 inches was
1.88 inches below or only 9 percent of normal, making it the second driest April on record. The driest April on record was
in 1994 when only 0.10 inches of precipitation fell. Snowfall for the climatological snowiest month was only a trace.
Only five previous years in Lander’s climate record went through April with a trace or no snowfall: 1915, 1930, 1946, 1978 and 1992.
MAY 2007 – Major Snowstorm on the 5th, No Precipitation May 7-31.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 54.7 degrees which was 1.3 degrees above normal for May.
A record high of 82 degrees was set on the 11th. A record low of 29 degrees was set on the 24th. The maximum
temperature for the month was 84 degrees on the 12th and the minimum temperature was 28 degrees on the 23rd.
The total precipitation was 1.93 inches which was 0.45 below or 81 percent of normal. Total snowfall for the month
was 9.4 inches which was 132 percent of normal with all of this snow falling during the May 5th storm. Up to 15 inches
of snow was measured southwest of Lander with over two feet along the east slopes of the Wind River Mountains from this storm.
JUNE 2007 – Ninth Warmest June on Record, Only a Little Over One-Half Normal Precipitation
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 66.9 degrees which was 3.2 degrees above normal. A record
high of 95 degrees was set on the 20th. The maximum temperature for the month was 97 degrees on the 30th,
and the minimum temperature for the month was 38 degrees on the 7th and 8th. The total precipitation for June was
0.63 inches which was 0.52 inches below or only 55 percent of normal. All measurable precipitation occurred with a
storm system that moved through the area on the 6th and 7th. Only a trace of snowfall fell during the month from the same
storm system.
JULY 2007 – Fourth Warmest on Record, Monsoonal Storms Hit Late in the Month
Lander’s average temperature for the monthwas 75.6 degrees which was 4.7 degrees above normal
and resulted in the fourth warmest July on record. 97 degrees on the 2nd tied a record high and 100
degrees on the 22nd set a new record. The 100 degree reading was also the warmest reading for the
month and 2007. The lowest reading for the month was 55 degrees on the 11th. Total precipitation for
the month was 0.77 inches which was 0.07 inches below or 92 percent of normal. Most of this precipitation
occurred when thunderstorms dumped 0.74 inches of rainfall on the 25th and 26th.
AUGUST 2007 – Monsoonal Storms Bring Most of Monthly Rainfall on 1st and 2nd, Warmer than Normal
Lander’s average temperature for the month was 71.7 degrees which was 2.3 degrees above normal.
The highest temperature for the month was 97 degrees on the 13th, and the lowest temperature was 47 on the 25th.
The 97 degree reading on the 13th set a new record high, and a high of 95 degrees set a record high for the 16th.
Total precipitation for the month was 0.78 inches which was 0.21 inches above or 139 percent of normal.
0.46 inches of this precipitation occurred during a 24 hour period on the 1st and 2nd from moisture-laden
thunderstorms. A wind gust of 56 mph was clocked on the 5th.
SEPTEMBER 2007 – Slightly Warmer and Drier than Normal, First Snow on the 24th.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 59.5 degrees, which was 0.8 degrees above normal. Lander tied
one record high temperature of 92 degrees on the 2nd. The highest temperature for the month was 93 degrees
on the 4th, and the lowest temperature was 29 degrees on the 25th. Total precipitation was 0.66 inches which was
0.48 inches below or 58 percent of normal. The first measurable snowfall of the season occurred on the 24th when
2.1 inches of snow fell.
OCTOBER 2007 – Drier and Slightly Warmer Than Normal, 74 mph Wind Gust.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 47.8 degrees which was 1.4 degrees above normal. A high
of 71 on the 25th tied a record high for the date. The highest temperature of 76 degrees occurred on the
10th. The lowest temperature for the month was 22 Degrees on the 22nd. The total precipitation was 0.94
which was 0.43 inches below or 69 percent of normal. Lander received 5.9 inches of snowfall which was also
only 69 percent of normal. 4.8 inches of this snow fell during snowstorm that was accompanied by thunderstorms
on October 6th and 7th.
A peak wind gust for 2007 of 74 mph occurred on the 1st.
NOVEMBER 2007 – Much Warmer and Drier Than Normal
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 35.5 degrees which was 5.2 degrees above normal. The
maximum temperature for the month was 67 degrees on the 4th, 7th and 8th and the minimum temperature for
the month was 2 degrees on the 22nd and 23rd. Lander had nine days in November when the maximum temperature
equaled or exceeded 60 degrees. The total precipitation was only 0.17 inches which was 0.82 inches below only 17 percent
of normal. Total snowfall for the month of 3.5 inches all occurred on the 20th and 21st. The 3.5 total was only 22 percent of
normal for the month. A peak wind gust of 53 mph was clocked on the 13th. These strong winds were part of a larger scale
wind storm that swept across the state.
DECEMBER 2007 –Snowiest on Record! Fourth Wettest on Record
Three major snowstorms on December 7-8, December 20-21 and December 23-25 dumped most of the
record-setting 34.6 inches of snowfall in Lander, breaking the previous record of 31.6 inches in December 1997.
Total precipitation for the month of 1.77 inches was 1.16 above or 290 percent of normal and resulted in the fourth
wettest December on record. Daily precipitation of 0.45 on the 7th and 0.28 on the 20th set new daily precipitation records,
and snowfall of 9.0 inches on the 7th and 6.0 inches on the 21st set new daily snowfall records.
Lander’s average monthly temperature was 15.8 degrees which was 5.5 degrees below normal. The highest temperature
for the month was 56 degrees on the 4th and the coldest temperature was 13 below zero on the 15th.
