CoCoRaHS Training Schedule for this Fall

Staff from the Riverton National Weather Service office will be conducting CoCoRaHS (pronounced cocoa-raws) training around western and central Wyoming this September and October.  The 75-minute class is free of charge and open to anyone with an interest in reporting precipitation and snow amounts year-round.  All course materials are provided to the volunteers.  Training will consist of an interactive multimedia presentation and demonstration of the tools used by volunteer CoCoRaHS observers all over the country.

Trained observers will be asked to provide precipitation, snowfall, and hail reports in support of the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, or CoCoRaHS.  The NWS and other governmental agencies utilize CoCoRaHS as a central location to obtain quality precipitation reports.  The daily reports are provided by trained volunteers who report using the Internet.  The CoCoRaHS network is a fun way to participate in meteorological science and to provide quality data to a wide variety of agencies and individuals.  The network, which originated at the Colorado Climate Center at Colorado State University, has over 11,000 observers in nearly 40 states.

For questions regarding the training, please email Dan Berc with the NWS in Riverton or call at (800) 211-1448.
