Ongoing Flooding Across Portions of Western Wyoming

Snow melt and additional rainfall have been noted across portions of western Wyoming the last few days which elevated flooding concerns. The Flood Warning for the west portion of the Star Valley of Lincoln County has been canceled and replaced with a Hydrologic Statement as river levels have begun to fall. Additional concerns were noted for other areas of western Wyoming, where an ongoing debris flow in the Snake River Canyon has closed Highway 89 between Alpine Junction and Hoback Junction. With cooler temperatures on the way for Wyoming conditions will become less favorable for new debris flows to develop. The ongoing slide is likely to continue to flow and will keep the highway closed for at least the next several days.

The image below shows a topographical map of the Snake River Canyon debris slide. The red hatched areas are other known debris slide areas, and the purple lines are known faults. Information from the University of Wyoming's Geological Survey.
