On Wednesday July 13, 2011, a thunderstorm rolled through Pinedale, Wyoming just after lunch time. Brief heavy rain fell in Pinedale for about ten minutes and frequent lightning was observed as well. A report of small hail also came in. As the thunderstorm moved into the mountains toward the northeast, a needle-like funnel cloud was observed to the southeast of the area of rain. Luckily, the summer meeting of the Wyoming Weather Modification Pilot Program Technical Team was also held in Pinedale that day. Quite a few meteorologists observed the funnel cloud from the southeast corner of the Pinedale Library. The funnel cloud was observed for about 5 minutes.
