November is National American Indian Heritage Month.  Here are a few facts courtesy of the U.S. Census Bureau:

• Native American Population:  5 million, making up 1.6 percent of the total population
• Median Age:  29.7
• State with the Largest Native American Population: California, with 739,964.
• Percentage of Native Americans 5 and older Who Speak a Language other than English at Home:  21%
• Percentage of Native Americans 25 and Older Who Have at Least a High School Diploma:  80%
• Median Income of Native American Households:  $37,348
• Percentage of Native American in Poverty in 2009:  23.6%
