Where Is The Smoke Coming From?

September 4, 2012 - A very dry and gusty westerly flow ahead of a Canadian cold front resulted in extreme fire activity and explosive growth of several large wildfires in the northern Rockies.  The image below shows two of the more active wildfires in Wyoming along with a large smoke plume from several very large wildfires burning in central Idaho.  The cold front was approximately at the south end of the outline of the larger smoke plume at the time this image was taken.  Click on the image to enlarge.
