...Heavy Rains Across the Ozarks...

A combination of summertime moisture being pulled northward from the Gulf of Mexico by a strong winter-type storm set the stage for very heavy rainfall across the Ozarks.  Rainfall began Wednesday evening across central Missouri and finally exited south central Missouri late Friday morning.  Rain fall amounts generally ranged from 3 to 6 inches across the area.  Heavier rainfall amounts of 6 to 8 inches occurred across Barry, Newton, Lawrence, Stone, Christian, and Greene counties where unofficial totals approached 10 to 11 inches.

This heavy rainfall resulted in widespread flooding across the area.  Numerous water rescues were reported during the overnight hours on Thursday as low water crossings and small creeks became innundated.  Runoff from this rainfall will cause many river forecast points in the area to exceed flood stage.  This has caused many secondary roads to close.  The good news is that rivers are expected to recede back within their banks by Monday barring any additional heavy rainfall.
