The Springfield National Weather Service Forecast Office in coordination with Battlefield Mall and the  Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management will host a Severe Weather Awareness Day at Battlefield Mall on Saturday, March 6, 2010. The event is free and will be held from 10 AM through 2 PM.  

To help the public plan and prepare for the upcoming severe weather season, agencies and organizations will offer a variety of educational information and interactive booths. National Weather Service meteorologists will conduct severe weather safety presentations and discuss the dangers of severe weather including tornadoes via a tornado simulator and booth. The American Red Cross will provide life saving medical information along with selling NOAA All Hazard Weather Radios. Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management will display the Hometown Ready and Community Emergency Response Team programs. Amateur Radio Operators will display the importance and usefulness of communication during severe weather and disaster recovery efforts. Local TV and Radio Stations will also be on hand to provide local listeners and viewers useful information that can keep you and your family safe during the upcoming severe weather season. Local vendors will also be on hand to demonstrate and display storm shelters and other weather safety products.
