Torrential Rainfall & Flooding Impact the Ozarks

Torrential rainfall impacted portions of the Missouri Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas Wednesday, September 1st.  Rainfall amounts 3 to 6 inches were common from the Nevada to Springfield to Marshfield and from Neosho to Mount Vernon, with localized amounts up to 10 inches in northeast Christian County.

The National Weather Service in Springfield broke the daily rainfall record with 4.62 inches which breaks the previous record to 2.47 set in 1958. This was also the second greatest 24-hour rainfall total for September.

This excessive rainfall resulted in numerous reports of flooded streams, county roads and low water crossings.
