National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office

The Springfield National Weather Service Forecast Office held its 2010 Open House on Saturday, October 23 from 9:00 AM until Noon.   Up to 300 people took part in the event despite being abbreviated because of active weather.

Activities included:

-Tours of our operations area, where forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories for 37 counties in southwestern Missouri and eastern Kansas are created and issued.

-Information and displays on the observing program

-Information on local programs such as aviation forecasting, climate, fire weather forecasting, and hydrology.

-Information on radar and satellite data
