A strong winter storm system brought moderate to heavy rain and scattered patches of freezing rain to portions of northeast and east central Kansas the evening of the 16th through early the morning of the 17th. Just before sunrise the 17th, the precipitation type switched over to all snow. Wet, heavy flakes fell through around the noon hour. Slushy, slippery roads made for hazardous driving conditions.
