March 23rd High Winds and Convection

Strong gradient winds during the afternoon and early evening hours of March 23rd prompted the issuance of a High Wind Warning for the entire NWS-Topeka forecast area.  Several damage reports were received, and ranged from downed trees and power lines to shingle and roof damage.  A complete listing of local storm reports is available at the bottom of this page. A plot of damage reports is available below.  If measured, a windspeed is included next to the storm report point.

Convection fired ahead of and along a dryline and cold front during the afternoon hours across north central Kansas and Nebraska.  Storms continued to develop through the evening hours.  Strong winds and large hail were reported with some of the more robust storms.  A complete listing of reports received by the National Weather Service in Topeka is available below.  A plot of the reports is also available below.  The event magnitude is listed next to the report point, with hail reports represented in blue, wind gusts in red, and heavy rain by the cloud symbols.
