Winter Weather Brings Icy Precipitation to Northeast Kansas
During the early morning hours on Friday December 31st light to moderate rain and sleet fell across portions of northeast and east central Kansas. Enough instability was present to produce thunderstorms, and since temperatures near the surface were at or below freezing, those thunderstorms resulted in periods of moderate sleet and freezing rain. By the end of the morning portions of east central Kansas received around a quarter inch of rain and freezing rain. Light snow fell across portions of north central Kansas overnight and accumulated around an inch.
