The heat wave across the Midwest continues. August 2 has been the hottest day of the year so far with a high temperature of 112 at Topeka Billard Airport. This shatters the previous record for the date of 106 set last year (2010). This ties for the fourth hottest temperature ever recorded in Topeka. The highest temperature ever recorded was 114 on July 24, 1936 followed by 113 on August 13 and 14 of 1936, and 112 on August 10, 1934, August 15, 1936, and August 2, 2011.
