July 2013 Climate Report for Topeka Kansas

 
JULY IN TOPEKA AVERAGED OUT TO BE NEAR NORMAL IN TEMPERATURE...AND
WELL BELOW NORMAL IN PRECIPITATION.

THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 78.4 DEGREES...WHICH WAS ONLY
0.6 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE.  THIS WAS IN CONTRAST TO THE LAST THREE
YEARS WHERE JULY WAS QUITE HOT.  WHILE THE MONTHLY TEMPERATURES
AVERAGED OUT NEAR NORMAL...THERE WERE QUITE A FEW SWINGS.  THE MONTH
STARTED OUT COOL WITH THE FIRST 4 DAYS HAVING HIGHS IN THE 80S AND
PLEASANT LOWS IN THE 50S.  IT THEN WARMED UP WITH 14 STRAIGHT DAYS
WHERE HIGHS REACHED 90 DEGREES OR MORE...WITH A RECORD HIGH ON JULY
9TH OF 105.  ALSO...ON THE MORNING OF THE 9TH...THE MERCURY ONLY
FELL TO 80 DEGREES...MAKING IT THE RECORD WARMEST MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE FOR THAT DATE.  TEMPERATURES COOLED OFF TOWARD THE END
OF THE MONTH...WITH HIGHS ON THE 27TH THROUGH 29TH ONLY REACHING
INTO THE 70S.  THE HIGH ON THE 27TH PEAKED AT 74 DEGREES...THE
RECORD COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THAT DATE.

ONLY 1.78 INCHES OF RAIN FELL AT TOPEKA BILLARD AIRPORT DURING THE
MONTH.  THIS WAS 2.04 INCHES BELOW THE AVERAGE FOR JULY.  MOST OF
THIS RAIN FELL ON ONE DAY WITH 1.34 INCHES ON THE 29TH...WHICH WAS A
RECORD AMOUNT FOR THAT DATE.
