Flip-Flop Fall Temperatures

Temperatures this fall season reversed their normal cooling trend as winter approached, with the month of November warmer than a very cool October. This turnaround was a first at the Rapid City Regional Airport since observations started in 1949.  Downtown Rapid City’s longer record includes this pattern in 1917, 1925, and 2002; but this year had the greatest temperature difference of the four occurrences.
