Real-time weather data plots are available on our web site for our office. We are located in east Rapid City above the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Because the office is on top of a ridge over looking the valley, we can have very interesting temperature trends. The temperature can easily be 20 degrees warmer at the office compared to the Rapid City Regional Airport. You can now view real-time data and archived data.
The wind direction can greatly affect our temperatures. The plot below is an example. Around 10:20 AM the wind direction turned southeasterly and the temperature dropped about 8 degrees during a time when the temperature normally rises. Prior to 10:20 AM, the wind had a westerly component. Winds with a westerly component at our office are normally downslope, which can allow warming to occur.
