Heavy snow falls over the northern Black Hills

January 2 - A small storm system moved across the northern Plains and produced heavy snow over the northern Black Hills. Several locations measured more than 15 inches in 24 hours. The heavy snow was confined to the higher elevations, as the surrounding plains and even the central Black Hills received no more than two inches of snow.  Parts of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation had some higher totals.  Snowfall reports from the area include:
