Winter Storm to affect the region today

A winter storm moving across the northern plains today will bring snow, strong winds, and very cold temperatures to the Black Hills region, where a Winter Storm Warning is in effect. Snow will spread across South Dakota today, ending Saturday morning.  Four to six inches of snow are expected across much of western South Dakota with higher amounts in the northern Black Hills. Strong northwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will cause blowing snow and reduced visibilities. These winds, combined with a cold airmass moving into the region, will produce wind chills of 15 below to 30 below zero Friday night into Saturday morning.
