Record April Snowfall Recorded for Rapid City Airport, SD

April 17, 2013 - The Rapid City Regional Airport has recorded 35.6 inches of snowfall for the month of April, which is the highest April snowfall ever recorded for the airport. The previous record was 30.6 inches measured in April 1970. Just one year ago, no snow fell during the month, tying for the least snowfall in April. A daily record snowfall of 4.0 inches was set for April 17, breaking the old record of 2.1 inches set in 1970.

At the National Weather Service office in Rapid City, 28.3 inches of snow has been recorded for the month of April through April 17. This is the fourth snowiest April on record for downtown Rapid City.
