Visual Hazardous Weather Outlook Key
A description of "This Period is Clear" for a given time period
indicates that none of the hazards listed in the Quad State Outlook are expected during that
time frame.
Fog
| Low | Some fog, mainly in valleys and near rivers. |
| Elevated | Locally dense fog. Most areas experiencing fog, but only a few locations have visibilities less than one quarter of a mile. |
| High | Dense Fog Advisory - Widespread fog with visibilities of a quarter mile or less |
Hail
| None | No hail expected. |
| Low | Small hail possible. Less than 1 inch in size. |
| Elevated | Hail possible. 1 inch in size up to golf ball size possible. |
| High | Hail possible. Larger than golf ball size hail expected. |
Heavy Rain
| None | Heavy Rain not expected. |
| Low | Isolated locations could receive some heavy rain. Not expected to be widespread. |
| Elevated | Heavy rain expected over some of the area. Localized flooding possible. |
| High | Flood or flash flood watch in effect. There is the Potential for heavy rain and flooding over large areas. |
Heavy Snow
| None | No snow expected |
| Low | Snow expected with minor accumulations. Generally less than 1 or 2 inches. |
| Elevated | Winter weather advisory. Snow amounts of generally 2-4 inches expected. |
| High | Winter Storm Warning or Blizzard Warning - 4 or more inches of snow expected. |
Ice
| None | No ice is expected |
| Low | Some ice may develop. Impacts are expected to be minor. |
| Elevated | Ice is expected with amounts less than 1/4 of an inch. |
| High | Ice Storm Warning. More than 1/4 of an inch expected. |
River Flooding
| None | No river flooding expected. |
| Low | Minor flooding - minimal or no property damage, but possibly some public threat or inconvenience. |
| Elevated | Moderate Flooding - some inundation of structures and roads near stream. Some evacuations of people and/or transfer of property to higher elevations is necessary. |
| High | Major or Record Flooding - extensive inundation of structures and roads. Significant evacuations of people and/or transfer of property to higher elevations. Flooding may equal or exceed the highest stage or discharge at a given site during
the period of record keeping. |
Strong Winds
| None | Winds less than 20 mph expected. |
| Low | Winds of 20 to 30 mph expected, or a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect. |
| Elevated | Wind Advisory. sustained winds of 30 mph and/or wind gusts to 45 mph expected. Weak branches may break and fall from trees. |
| High | High wind Warning. Wind gusts of 58 mph or higher expected. Downed trees and power lines expected. |
Thunderstorm Winds
| None | Thunderstorms expected...but wind gusts of less than 20 mph expected. |
| Low | Thunderstorms expected with most wind gusts below 58 mph. |
| Elevated | Thunderstorms expected with some wind gusts greater than 58 mph. |
| High | Thunderstorms expected with wind gusts above 58 mph and large areas of wind damage possible. |
Thunderstorms
| None | No thunderstorms expected |
| Low | Thunderstorms forecast for this time period. However, they are expected to be scattered or isolated in coverage. Non-severe thunderstorms expected. |
| Elevated | Thunderstorms are likely, or coverage is expected to be scattered to numerous. Storm Prediction Center may or may not have us outlooked in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms. |
| High | Thunderstorms are expected and the Storm Prediction Center has us outlooked in a moderate or high risk of severe weather. |
Tornadoes
| None | No tornadoes |
| Low | Low risk of tornadoes. |
| Elevated | Moderate risk as defined by the Storm Prediction Center with tornadoes mentioned for our area. |
| High | High risk as defined by the Storm Prediction Center with tornadoes a big threat. |
Wind Chill
| Low | Wind Chill values expected to be between 0 and -10. |
| Elevated | Wind Chill Advisory - Wind Chill values expected to be -10 to -25. |
| High | Wind Chill Warning - Wind chill values expected to reach -25 or lower |
