SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...
 
NWS OFFICIALS CONDUCTED AN AERIAL AND GROUND STORM DAMAGE SURVEY 
YESTERDAY IN CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY. THE FOLLOWING ARE THE 
PRELIMINARY FINDINGS OF THE SURVEY. THIS INVESTIGATION IS 
ONGOING...SO THIS PRODUCT WILL BE UPDATED IF FURTHER INFORMATION 
BECOMES AVAILABLE.

* EVENT DATE: TUESDAY 6 MAY 2003

* EVENT TYPE: F3 TORNADO  

* ESTIMATED TIME:  845 PM CDT
                   
* EVENT LOCATION: 
  FROM THE CONCRETE PLANT AT THE INTERSECTION OF HWYS 61/55 AND 34   
  IN JACKSON...THROUGH THE CENTER OF DOWNTOWN JACKSON...EXTENDING    
  TO BENT CREEK GOLF COURSE...ENDING 300 YARDS SHORT OF I-55.

* ESTIMATED MAX WINDS: 180 MPH  

* DAMAGE AREA DIMENSIONS: 40-50 YARDS WIDE...2 MILES LONG.
 
* INJURIES:  NONE
     
* FATALITIES: NONE

* DAMAGE: ROOF TORN OFF POLICE AND FIRE STATION BUILDING.  CARS AND  
  OTHER VEHICLES IN DOWNTOWN JACKSON PUSHED ABOUT OR TIPPED OVER.    
  NUMEROUS LARGE TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED.  ROOFS TORN OFF MANY     
  BUILDINGS AND HOMES AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL IN DOWNTOWN JACKSON.     
  TWO HOMES IN  THE SUBDIVISION ADJOINING BENT CREEK GOLF COURSE     
  DESTROYED...MANY OTHERS IN THAT AREA SUFFERED SEVERE DAMAGE.
