THE WARNING COORDINATION METEOROLOGIST FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER

SERVICE OFFICE IN PADUCAH SURVEYED DAMAGE IN DAVIESS COUNTY THIS

MORNING.

THE SURVEY YIELDED THE FOLLOWING:

EVENT TYPE: F-3 TORNADO

WIND ESTIMATE: 180 MPH

DAMAGE PATH: APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE WIDE BY 7 MILES LONG

MOST PREDOMINATE DAMAGE FROM ROME TO THE HEART OF

DOWNTOWN OWENSBORO

DAMAGE: 750 HOMES DAMAGED OF WHICH

200-300 WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED AND

50 WERE TOTALLED

DOZENS OF BUSINESSES

DAMAGED OR DESTROYED

APPROXIMATELY 20,000 PEOPLE STILL WITHOUT POWER

PRELIMINARY DOLLAR ESTIMATE IS WELL INTO THE

MILLIONS OF DOLLARS

INJURIES: PRESS AND MAYOR SAY 18 INJURED - 2 CRITICAL

TIME: APPROXIMATELY 4:06 PM

FIRST PUBLIC CALL OF TORNADO DAMAGE AT 4:10 PM

TORNADO WARNING HAD BEEN ISSUED AT 3:43 PM

LEAD TIME WAS 23 MINUTES
