EVENT...UPDATE TO PREVIOUS SPENES MESSAGE SENT AROUND 13Z FOR EVOLUTION OF
SYSTEM ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHEAST/MID-ATLANTIC/APPALACHIAN REGION.
.
SATELLITE ANALYSIS AND TRENDS...WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CONTINUES TO INDICATE
MID/UPPER LEVEL CIRCULATION LIFTING N OVER MID MS VALLEY REGION WHILE
RATHER POTENT NEGATIVELY TILTED SHORTWAVE DEPICTED BY DARKENING/MID
LEVEL DRIER AIR IS MOVING NE ACROSS MS/AL. DOWNSTREAM OF THIS SHORTWAVE,
MOISTURE/LARGER SCALE LIFT CONTINUES TO INCREASE AND SPREAD FARTHER TO
THE N AND W WITH MOISTURE SOURCE REGIONS FROM BOTH THE E GULF OF MEXICO
AND ATLANTIC BEING TAPPED. VISIBLE ANIMATION CONFIRMS THIS ATLANTIC
CONNECTION WITH NUMEROUS CU STREAKS SEEN MOVING IN FROM THE ATLANTIC
TOWARD NC/VA/MD. ANIMATION OF THE BLENDED TPW PRODUCT AND RECENT GPS DATA
ALSO INDICATE PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES RISING TO OVER 1" ACROSS A GOOD
PORTION OF VA TO 1.5" A BIT FARTHER TO THE S OVER E TN/NC TO NEAR 1.8"
ALONG THE COAST OF SC. THESE VALUES FROM NC SOUTHWARD RANGE FROM 2-2.5
STANDARD DEVIATIONS OF NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.
.
IR/VIS IMAGERY HAVE SHOWN SOME ENHANCEMENT IN THE PAST HOUR OR SO WITH
CONVECTIVE LINE MOVING ACROSS SC WITH LESS OF A SIGNATURE ON THE NW
PERIPHERY OVER W SC/W NC/FAR E TN. HOWEVER, AN INSPECTION OF MESONET
OBSERVATIONS THOUGH DO SHOW .5" TO NEARLY 1.0"/HR ACTUAL TOTALS EMBEDDED
WITHIN THE NW PORTION OF THIS ENHANCEMENT ALONG WITH 3 HOUR TOTALS LOCALLY
OVER 1" FROM SW VA(S OF MARTINSVILLE) TO EXTREME NE GA WHICH IS LIKELY
AN INDICATION OF THE PRECIPITATION EFFICIENCY PERHAPS AIDED BY TERRAIN
EFFECTS AND THE PROXIMITY TO THE SFC AND 850MB BOUNDARIES. CERTAINLY
BELIEVE EVEN HIGHER TOTALS ARE POSSIBLE BETWEEN MESONET STATIONS. FARTHER
TO THE SE, HAVE SEEN MORE TYPICAL CONVECTIVE 1"-2"/HR AND LOCALLY HIGHER
RATES IN MESONET WITH THE DEEPER BUT STEADILY PROPAGATING LINE EARLIER
ACROSS GA AND NOW INTO SC.
.
FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS AND BEYOND, EXPECT INCREASING RAIN RATES/TOTALS
TO CONTINUE TO BEGIN TO WIND DOWN FROM S TO N OVER SC AND FAR W NC BUT
ALSO SHIFT N AND NE ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF NC, A GOOD PORTION OF VA,
FAR E WV, W MD, AND EVENTUALLY NEARING THE DC METRO AREA. CONFLUENT LOW
LEVEL INFLOW WILL ALSO FOCUS ALONG SFC-850MB BOUNDARIES WHICH WILL LIFT
NORTHWARD FROM THE CAROLINAS INTO VA DURING THIS TIME FRAME ALONG WITH AN
INCREASE IN THE SE LLJ DIRECTED INTO THE E/SE FACING TERRAIN OF W NC/SW
VA INITIALLY, THEN PROGRESSING INTO W VA/FAR W WVA/W MD BY LATER IN THE
EVENING/OVERNIGHT PER WPC EXCESSIVE DISCUSSION. OF PARTICULAR CONCERN
FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS WILL BE THE N AND NW EXTENT OF AFOREMENTIONED
CONVECTIVE LINE WHICH HAS TAKEN ON AN ORIENTATION WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR
SOMEWHAT LONGER PERIOD OF S TO N OR SSW TO NNE TRAINING ROUGHLY FROM
NEAR CHARLOTTE NC TO NEAR OR JUST W OF ROANOKE VA. PLEASE REFER TO WPC
DISCUSSIONS AND QPF FOR MORE DETAILS.
