AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EUREKA CA
326 PM PDT SAT APR 25 2015

.SYNOPSIS...DRY WEATHER WILL PERSIST THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK DUE
TO A RIDGE BUILDING OVER THE WEST COAST. INTERIOR TEMPERATURES
WILL BE ABOVE NORMAL SUNDAY AND MONDAY...AND THEN COOL ON TUESDAY
AS THE RIDGE MOVES INLAND.

&&

.DISCUSSION...THE RIDGE HAS BEGUN BUILDING OVER THE WEST COAST
TODAY AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY, BRINGING DRY WEATHER. AS
FOR TEMPERATURES, THEY WILL BE THEIR COLDEST TONIGHT AS BRISK
NORTHWEST FLOW MOVES COOLER AIR OVER OUR AREA. FROST IS POSSIBLE
LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING ACROSS THE VALLEYS OF MENDOCINO
COUNTY AND TRINITY COUNTIES. HOWEVER, NOT CONFIDENT WIDESPREAD
COOLING WARRANTS A FROST ADVISORY FOR THE INTERIOR VALLEYS.
MINIMUM TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY FALL TO THE UPPER 30S ACROSS MOST
AREAS AND ONLY THE COLDEST MAY REACH 35 OR 36 FOR AN HOUR AROUND
SUNRISE. SKY COVER MAY ALSO INHIBIT TEMPERATURES FROM DROPPING TOO
MUCH. AS A RESULT OF THIS UNCERTAINTY, HELD OFF ON ISSUING OUR
20TH FROST HEADLINE FOR THIS SPRING WITH THIS PACKAGE.
TEMPERATURES WILL RISE AND BE ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE INTERIOR ON
SUNDAY AND THEN RISE EVEN MORE ON MONDAY. WIDESPREAD VALLEY
TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S CAN BE EXPECTED ON MONDAY. BUT
TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TRENDING BACK DOWNWARD ACROSS THE INTERIOR
ON TUESDAY AS THE RIDGE SHIFTS INLAND AND A TROUGH APPROACHES FROM
THE PACIFIC. MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT SHOWING THE TROUGH
MOVING OVER US LATE WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY, BRINGING COOLER
TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER, NO LARGE WEATHER SYSTEMS ARE CURRENTLY
EXPECTED WITH THIS TROUGH AT THIS TIME. AS A RESULT, POPS REMAIN
SLIGHTLY BELOW CLIMO DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. TEMPERATURES REFLECT
THE CONSMODEL. JT/MS

&&

.AVIATION...SHOWERS HAVE ENDED ACROSS THE AREA TODAY AS AN UPPER
TROUGH HAS CONTINUED TO MOVE INLAND. MVFR CIGS THIS MORNING HAVE
GIVEN WAY TO VFR CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. AS OF
20Z...VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED STRATO-CU OVER THE INTERIOR
MOUNTAINS WITH HIGH CLOUDS MOVING OVERHEAD. INLAND SITES HAVE BEEN
REPORTING CIGS NEAR 4 TO 5K FEET TODAY. GOING INTO THE
OVERNIGHT...EXPECT MAINLY VFR CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA...ALTHOUGH
SOME MVFR CIGS ARE NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION...ESPECIALLY VC HUMBOLDT
BAY WHERE MODELS SHOW HIGHER LEVELS OF BL RH OVERNIGHT. GUSTY NW
WINDS FOR COASTAL LOCATIONS AND KUKI WILL DECREASE THIS EVENING AS
WINDS DECOUPLE. STP

&&

.MARINE...THE WINDS AND SEAS WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY DECREASE
THIS WEEKEND AS A HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE EXTENDING INTO THE REGION
PERSIST ACROSS THE AREA. THE WINDS AND SEAS WILL INCREASE SLIGHTLY
MONDAY IN THE WAKE OF A WEAK COLD FRONT. A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE
ACROSS THE REGION TUESDAY THEN A HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE WILL BUILD
ACROSS THE AREA IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT. THE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE
WILL INCREASE THE PRESSURE GRADIENT ACROSS THE WATERS. THE WINDS AND
SEAS WILL RESPOND TO THE INCREASED PRESSURE GRADIENT AND WILL
INCREASE ON TUESDAY. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES ARE LIKELY ACROSS THE
OUTER WATERS TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY DUE TO AN INCREASE IN THE
WINDS AND/OR SEAS. SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES MAY BE NECESSARY ACROSS THE
SOUTHERN NEAR SHORE WATERS ON WEDNESDAY DUE TO AN INCREASE IN THE
WINDS.

&&

.EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
CA...NONE.
NORTHWEST CALIFORNIA COASTAL WATERS...NONE.
