AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT
955 AM MDT SUN APR 26 2015

.SYNOPSIS...A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA
TODAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL RETURN BEGINNING MONDAY AND REMAIN
THROUGH MOST OF THE WEEK.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A DEEP ELONGATED UPPER TROF REMAINS OVER THE
FORECAST AREA THIS MORNING EXTENDING FROM WRN MONTANA SWD THRU UT
TO A CLOSED CENTER MOVING INTO WRN NEW MEXICO. THE FLOW ALOFT IS
LIGHT ACROSS THE AREA BUT LOW LEVEL FORCING HAS KEPT PRECIP ACTIVE
ALONG AND WEST OF THE HIGHER TERRAIN UP AND DOWN THE ENTIRE STATE
AND IT HAS PRETTY MUCH ENDED EAST OF THE MTNS.

PRECIP SHOULD TAPER OFF MOST AREAS BY MIDDAY AS THE CLOSED LOW
BECOMES THE DOMINANT CIRCULATION AND HEADS ACROSS NEW MEXICO AND
LIFT WITH THE TROF AXIS WANES. A LITTLE LOW TOPPED CONVECTION IS
POSSIBLE THIS AFTN MAINLY OVER THE MTNS AND EAST AND RESIDUAL
MOISTURE OVER THE FAR NERN CWA COULD ALSO KEEP A FEW LIGHT
SHOWERS GOING BUT THATS ABOUT IT.

A DECENT NORTHWESTERLY SURFACE GRADIENT WILL KEEP LOCAL GUSTY
NORTH WINDS GOING ACROSS MUCH OF THE CWA TODAY INTO TONIGHT. THESE
COULD LOCALLY PERSIST IN THE DOWNSLOPE AREAS ACROSS SWRN UT INTO
MON MORNING. DO NOT EXPECT ADVISORY LEVEL SPEEDS HOWEVER.

DRIER AND WARMER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED MON AS AN UPPER RIDGE
BUILDS IN FROM THE WEST BUT ISOLATED LOW TOPPED CONVECTION COULD
DEVELOP AGAIN OVER THE MTNS FROM THE UINTAS SWD GENERATING A FEW
LIGHT SHOWERS.

UPDATED EARLIER TO RAISE POPS ACROSS W CENTRAL AND SWRN UT FOR
THE MORNING AND LOWERED THEM OVER THE SOUTH AND EAST. ALSO
ADJUSTED WINDS UPWARDS SOMEWHAT MOST AREAS FOR TODAY. NO
ADDITIONAL UPDATES PLANNED AT THIS TIME.

&&

.AVIATION...CIGS AT THE KSLC TERMINAL WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY
THIN AND LIFT THIS MORNING...WITH CIGS LIFTING ABOVE 6000 FEET AGL
BETWEEN 18-19Z. THIS SAID...A 20 PERCENT CHANCE EXISTS CIGS AT OR
BELOW 6000 FEET AGL WILL LINGER THROUGH 21Z. NORTH TO NORTHWEST
WINDS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE THROUGH THE DAY.

&&

.SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
UT...NONE.
WY...NONE.
