...DECEMBER AT ROCHESTER MN WAS WARMER THAN NORMAL AND A LITTLE DRIER THAN
NORMAL...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER WAS 23.6 DEGREES...WHICH WAS
3.9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND RANKS AS THE 22ND WARMEST DECEMBER ON
RECORD. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 28.9 DEGREES...WHILE THE
AVERAGE LOW WAS 18.4 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE
MONTH WAS 47 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 14TH AND 15TH...WHILE THE
LOWEST READING WAS 13 DEGREES BELOW ZERO WHICH OCCURRED ON 31ST.

A TOTAL OF 1.02 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL DURING THE MONTH OF
DECEMBER...WHICH WAS 0.21 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24-HOUR
PRECIPITATION TOTAL WAS 0.46 INCHES WHICH FELL FROM 22ND TO 23RD.

THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 8.2 INCHES OF SNOWFALL RECORDED DURING THE
MONTH...WHICH WAS 4.3 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24-HOUR
SNOWFALL WAS 3.9 INCHES WHICH FELL ON THE 23RD.

DECEMBER 14TH...THE LOW TEMPERATURE AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT WAS 42
DEGREES. THIS ESTABLISHES A RECORD FOR THE WARMEST MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE. THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 37 HAD STOOD FOR 86 YEARS SINCE
BEING SET IN 1928.

*****DISCUSSION*****

THE MONTH STARTED OFF ON A COLD NOTE AND THEN TRANSITIONED TO A
MILDER WEST TO SOUTHWEST FLOW THAT PERSISTED THROUGH MUCH OF THE
MONTH. THIS FLOW ALSO BROUGHT A LOT OF CLOUDS INTO THE REGION WHICH
HELPED KEEP THE TEMPERATURES UP OVERNIGHT...WHICH RESULTED IN A
RECORD WARM LOW TEMPERATURE ON THE 14TH. THERE WERE IN FACT 21 OF
THE 31 DAYS DURING THE MONTH WITH ABOVE AVERAGE DAILY TEMPEATURES.
COLD AIR FINALLY RETURNED BY THE END OF THE MONTH WITH THE LAST 4
DAYS AVERAGING BELOW NORMAL. PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL WAS RATHER
SPARSE DURING THE MONTH WITH JUST 4 DAYS...THE 15TH...23RD...26-
27TH...ACCOUNTING FOR THE BULK OF THE PRECIPITATION AND SNOW.
