PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
807 AM AST THU APR 30 2015

...SAHARAN DUST DIMINISHING...HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE...

NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES ARE AGAIN POSSIBLE FROM ARECIBO TO THE
GREATER SAN JUAN METRO AREA...THOUGH OVERNIGHT LOWS WERE COOLER
TODAY. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO MINIMIZE THE RISK FROM
HEAT...ESPECIALLY AROUND MIDDAY TO MID- AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES
WILL RANGE BETWEEN 90 TO 95 DEGREES AND THE HEAT INDEX WILL BE
AROUND 100 DEGREES ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS AND COASTAL AREAS OF
NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN PUERTO RICO.

THE SAHARAN DUST...IS DIMINISHING...AND WILL BE NEARLY GONE BY
SATURDAY...BUT WILL RETURN EARLY NEXT WEEK IN LESSER QUANTITIES. THE
OVERALL DRY AND HOT CONDITIONS...HOWEVER...ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE
INTO NEXT WEEK WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 90S IN THE
GREATER SAN JUAN METROPOLITAN AREA. MOST OTHER AREAS OF PUERTO RICO
AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS WILL HAVE HIGHS IN THE 80S.

A PERSISTENT SOUTHEASTERLY FLOW IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE
END OF NEXT WEEK. BUT THERE ARE SOME PATCHES OF MOISTURE IN THE
LOWER LEVELS THAT WILL PROVIDE LIGHT PASSING SHOWERS SATURDAY
THROUGH MONDAY...MAINLY ON THE WINDWARD SLOPES OF PUERTO RICO IN THE
MORNINGS AND THE NORTHWEST SECTION OF THE ISLAND IN THE
AFTERNOONS...BUT THE REMAINDER OF NEXT WEEK WILL BE DRY AGAIN. ONLY
ISOLATED SHOWERS WITH MINOR ACCUMULATIONS IF ANY ARE EXPECTED IN THE
U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS.
