PROBABILISTIC HEAVY SNOW AND ICING DISCUSSION
NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
319 AM EDT WED MAY 06 2015

VALID 12Z WED MAY 06 2015 - 12Z SAT MAY 09 2015

DAYS 1-3...

...WESTERN U.S....

A DEEP UPPER LOW THAT IS EXPECTED TO DROP SOUTH FROM THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST ACROSS CA BEFORE ROTATING EAST INTO THE FOUR CORNERS
REGION WILL SUPPORT HEAVY SNOWS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE WESTERN
U.S. AS THE LOW DIGS SOUTH ACROSS CA...SOME OF THE HEAVIEST
ACCUMULATIONS OF THE PERIOD ARE EXPECTED TO FOCUS ALONG THE SIERRA
- WHERE LATE SEASON SNOWS COULD ACCUMULATE TO A FOOT OR MORE ALONG
THE HIGHER PEAKS DURING THE DAYS 2-3 PERIODS (EARLY THU - EARLY
SAT). OTHER AREAS WHERE HEAVY SNOWS ARE POSSIBLE INCLUDE THE
RANGES OF NORTHWESTERN WY...ESPECIALLY THE ABSAROKA RANGE AND THE
WIND RIVER MOUNTAINS. PERSISTENT EASTERLY FLOW WITH AREAS OF
ENHANCED DIVERGENCE AFFORDED BY SHORTWAVES ROTATING AROUND THE LOW
WILL ENCOURAGE PERIODS OF SNOW...WITH THREE DAY TOTALS OF A FOOT
OR MORE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE HIGHER PEAKS.

THE PROBABILITY OF SIGNIFICANT ICING IS LESS THAN 10 PERCENT.
