AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAS VEGAS NV
235 PM PDT SUN APR 26 2015

.SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE REGION MONDAY AND
TUESDAY. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE NORTH WINDS TO GRADUALLY SUBSIDE
WHILE TEMPERATURES WARM BACK ABOVE NORMAL.
&&

.SHORT TERM...THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT

RADAR DETECTING A FEW SPRINKLES OR LIGHT SHOWERS ALONG THE EASTERN
MOHAVE COUNTY LINE ADJACENT TO YAVAPAI AND COCONINO COUNTIES. LATEST
HRRR INDICATES THESE CELLS WILL EITHER DISSIPATE OR MOVE EAST INTO
YAVAPAI AND COCONINO COUNTIES BY LATE AFTERNOON. WILL NOT CARRY ANY
MENTION OF SHOWERS INTO THIS EVENING FOR MOHAVE COUNTY.

SOME CURRENT OBSERVED WIND SPEEDS FOR OUR ADVISORY PRODUCTS RIGHT
AROUND CRITERIA SO WILL ALLOW THE PRODUCTS TO CONTINUE THROUGH 7 PM
PDT/MST.

UPPER LOW OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES PROGGED TO MOVE EAST ACROSS THE
TO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS MONDAY AND INTO THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER
VALLEY TUESDAY. THIS WILL ALLOW RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE ALONG THE
WEST COAST TO SHIFT INLAND ACROSS THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST. A NORTH
WIND WILL REMAIN MAINLY WITHIN THE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY MONDAY
BEFORE RELAXING TUESDAY. AS THE WINDS DIMINISH TEMPERATURES WILL BE
ON THE RISE THROUGH MID-WEEK.
&&

.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL BEGIN TO BREAK DOWN AND SLIDE SOUTHEAST WEDNESDAY
AS AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE MOVES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. WE
SHOULD SEE AN INCREASE IN SOUTHERLY WINDS, YET REMAIN DRY AS
MOISTURE WILL BE LIMITED AND WELL TO OUR NORTH. THE LOW-LEVEL
BOUNDARY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LOW WILL EVENTUALLY SLIDE SOUTH AND
BECOME QUASI-STATIONARY WEST TO EAST ACROSS CENTRAL NEVADA THURSDAY
AND FRIDAY. MODELS HINT AT THE COMBINATION OF THIS BOUNDARY AND
MEAGER MOISTURE SPARKING A FEW AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING SHOWERS AND
STORMS ACROSS CENTRAL NEVADA, PERHAPS ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHERN
INYO, ESMERALDA, NYE, AND LINCOLN COUNTIES. WILL AT LEAST BE
SOMETHING TO WATCH FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, BUT HAVE KEPT THE AREA
DRY FOR NOW. THEN, ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS PROJECTED TO
APPROACH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST SATURDAY OR SUNDAY. MODELS DIFFER ON
TIMING AND STRENGTH AND THERE IS NOTICEABLE ENSEMBLE SPREAD. THIS
TROUGH COULD GENERATE BREEZY SOUTHERLY WINDS AND INCREASE CLOUDS A
BIT. AS FOR TEMPERATURES, EXPECT TO BE AROUND 10 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, AND PERHAPS FRIDAY
BEFORE TRENDING A FEW DEGREES COOLER FOR THE WEEKEND. FOR THE LAS
VEGAS VALLEY, THAT MEANS LOW AND MID 90S TRENDING TO MID AND UPPER
80S FOR THE WEEKEND.
&&

.AVIATION...FOR MCCARRAN...EXPECT PREVAILING NORTHWEST WIND
DIRECTION FOR THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. SUSTAINED
SPEEDS GENERALLY 15 TO 25 KTS WITH GUSTS TO 30 KTS. AS THE SPEEDS
DIMINISH THIS EVENING BETWEEN 02Z-04Z THE DIRECTION MAY GO MORE
NORTHERLY. WINDS WILL TRANSITION TO A NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION AFTER
17Z MONDAY WITH SPEEDS 12 KTS OR LESS. CLEAR SKIES EXPECTED THROUGH
TUESDAY.

.FOR THE REST OF SOUTHERN NEVADA...NORTHWEST ARIZONA...AND SOUTHEAST
CALIFORNIA...THE GUSTY NORTH WINDS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY
EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING OVERNIGHT. ON MONDAY, NORTH WINDS WILL BE
MAINLY FOCUSED WITHIN THE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY AFFECT THE KIFP AND
KEED TERMINALS WHERE GUSTS UP TO 30KTS ARE POSSIBLE. VFR
CONDITIONS EXPECTED THROUGH TUESDAY.
&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...SPOTTERS SHOULD REPORT ACCORDING TO
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.
