FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR EASTERN/CENTRAL MO AND SOUTHWEST IL
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ST LOUIS MO
527 AM CDT TUE APR 21 2015

.DISCUSSION...

THERE IS AN ELEVATED FIRE DANGER FOR AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE
70 THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL PICK UP AGAIN LATE THIS MORNING OUT OF THE
WEST-SOUTHWEST AND GUST UPWARDS OF 25 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS POSSIBLE
ACROSS NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS. MINIMUM RELATIVE
HUMIDITY VALUES SHOULD DROP TO NEAR 30% ALONG THE INTERSTATE 70 CORRIDOR
WITH LOWER VALUES FURTHER NORTH...POSSIBLY DIPPING INTO THE LOWER 20S ACROSS
NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND WEST CENTRAL ILLINOIS BY THIS AFTERNOON. 10 HOUR
FUEL MOISTURE VALUES ARE FORECAST TO BE MARGINAL FOR FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS
BUT AM CONCERNED THAT THE FORECAST IS TOO CONSERVATIVE BECAUSE 10 HOUR FUEL
MOISTURE VALUES MEASURED AT SURROUNDING RAWS SITES HAVE ONLY RECOVERED INTO
THE 12%-15% RANGE OVERNIGHT. DUE TO A LOWER STARTING POINT THINK THAT FUEL
MOISTURE VALUES MAY DROP WELL BELOW 10% ACROSS NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND WEST
CENTRAL ILLINOIS CREATING RED FLAG CONDITIONS IN THAT AREA. MEANWHILE...
THERE IS A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHERN MISSOURI
AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS FROM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT. THERE IS ALSO
A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS ACROSS WESTM CENTRAL AND CENTRAL ILLINOIS TONGIHT.
