FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR WESTERN NEW YORK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BUFFALO NY
528 AM EDT SAT APR 18 2015

.DISCUSSION...

A MOISTURE STARVED COLD FRONT WILL DROP SOUTH ACROSS THE REGION
TODAY WITH MOST AREAS ONLY EXPERIENCING SOME GUSTY WINDS. THE FRONT
COULD GENERATE SOME NUISANCE SHOWERS THOUGH ACROSS THE NORTH
COUNTRY.

NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE BEHIND THE COLD FRONT WITH SUSTAINED
WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 35 MPH POSSIBLE EAST OF
THE GENESEE VALLEY DURING THE MIDDAY AND AFTERNOON. RH WILL ALSO
DECREASE BEHIND THE FRONT AND BOTTOM OUT AROUND 35 PERCENT. WHILE
THE WIND AND RH VALUES WILL APPROACH RED FLAG CRITERIA...MOST AREAS
HAVE RECEIVED A QUARTER INCH OF RAIN THURSDAY NIGHT WHICH WILL
ALLOW FOR LINGERING MOISTURE IN FINE FUELS. THE NORTH COUNTRY
RECEIVED LESS RAIN...BUT HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE TUG HILL AND
WESTERN FOOTHILLS OF THE ADIRONDACKS JUST LOST THEIR SNOWPACK...
SO FINE FUELS ARE LIKELY NOT DRY ENOUGH IN MANY AREAS.

CANADIAN HIGH PRESSURE WILL THEN BUILD SOUTH ACROSS THE LOWER
GREAT LAKES IN THE WAKE OF THE FRONT...AND THIS WILL GUARANTEE
FAIR WEATHER FOR OUR REGION THROUGH THE DAYLIGHT HOURS SUNDAY.
UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL RETURN FOR SUNDAY NIGHT AND LATE MONDAY.
