5 DAY ICE DISCUSSION...

THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD INDICATED THE ICE ON THE EXTREME
EASTERN PORTIONS OF LAKE SUPERIOR HAS BEEN ALLOWING TRAFFIC TO FLOW
THROUGH THE ICE FIELDS DURING THE DAY. NIGHT TIME TRAFFIC HAS BEEN
AFFECTED BY THE ICE FIELDS AS OF TODAY. THE ICE EXTENDS FROM GRAND
MARAIS NORTH TO MICHIPICOTEN ISLAND EAST TO THE WHITEFISH BAY.  THE
ICE FIELD OVER THE EASTERN PORTION OF LAKE SUPERIOR WILL GRADUALLY
DECAY FROM WEST TO EAST OVER THE NEXT 5 DAYS. SIGNIFICANT ICE COVER
WILL STILL REMAIN OVER THE EASTERN PORTIONS OF LAKE SUPERIOR THROUGH
SATURDAY.

TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE NEAR TO SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL
THROUGH FRIDAY RISING TO NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL ON SATURDAY. WATER
TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO REMAIN NEAR FREEZING THROUGH THE PERIOD
IN WHITEFISH BAY.

WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN FROM THE NORTH TO NORTHWEST ACROSS THE
ENTIRE GREAT LAKES AND INCREASE IN SPEED OVER THE WESTERN HALF OF
THE AREA BY WEDNESDAY. THE FLOW WILL BECOME MORE NORTHEAST WEDNESDAY
NIGHT AND THURSDAY AND THEN BECOME SOUTHERLY OVER LAKE SUPERIOR BY
FRIDAY MORNING.  THE SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL PUSH INTO THE REST OF
THE LAKES BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. NO STRONG STORM SYSTEMS ARE
EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE LAKE THROUGH THE PERIOD.
