GREAT LAKES ICE OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CLEVELAND OHIO
500 PM EDT MON APR 13 2015

ACTIVE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND ADVISORIES ON THE GREAT LAKES CAN
BE FOUND AT...HTTP://WWW.CRH.NOAA.GOV/GREATLAKES/?C=HAZ&L=GL&P=A

5 DAY ICE DISCUSSION...
A COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE EASTERN LAKES THIS EVENING. HIGH
PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE GREAT LAKES BY TUESDAY. THE HIGH WILL
LINGER OVER THE EASTERN LAKES THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT BEFORE MOVING
EAST. A LOW AND FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL AFFECT THE WESTERN LAKES FRIDAY
AND THE EASTERN LAKES LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING. HIGH
PRESSURE WILL BE BUILDING INTO THE WESTERN LAKES SATURDAY.

WEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KNOTS WILL DECREASE TO 10 TO 20 KNOTS TONIGHT
AND WILL BE MAINLY SOUTHWEST AT 5 TO 15 KNOTS ON TUESDAY AND THEN
VARIABLE AT 5 TO 10 KNOTS TUESDAY NIGHT.

NORMAL TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED ON ALL OF THE LAKES
THROUGH NEXT SATURDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN CONTINUED DETERIORATION
OF THE REMAINING ICE FIELDS ON THE LAKE. LAKE ERIE IS ICE FREE FROM
ABOUT FAIRPORT HARBOR WEST. ICE PERSISTS IN THE STRAITS OF MACKINAC
AND OVER THE EASTERN PORTION OF LAKE HURON AND MUCH OF THE EASTERN
HALF OF LAKE SUPERIOR.

THE WIND THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL ONLY HAVE A MINOR IMPACT ON
DECREASING THE ICE COVERAGE. THE WARMER TEMPERATURES WILL HAVE THE
MOST IMPACT ON DECREASING THE ICE COVERAGE...NONE THE LESS IT WILL
BE A SLOW PROCESS.

THE ICE FLOES SHOULD NOT BE SHIFTING THAT MUCH FOR MUCH OF THE WEEK
BECAUSE OF GENERALLY LIGHT WINDS EXPECTED.
