DAY 2 FIRE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1045 AM CDT WED MAY 06 2015

VALID 071200Z - 081200Z

NO CHANGES MADE TO THIS OUTLOOK. A DRY AIRMASS WILL REMAIN OVER THE
REGION FRI AFTERNOON WITH A RELATIVELY LARGE PART OF NEW ENGLAND
MEETING RH THRESHOLDS FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER AMIDST
DRY/SUPPORTIVE FUELS FOR FIRE GROWTH. SURFACE WINDS ARE THE ONLY
LIMITING FACTOR PRECLUDING A HIGHER THREAT. POTENTIAL FOR ENHANCED
SURFACE WINDS WILL EXIST ACROSS MOST OF MAINE...BUT GREATEST
CONFIDENCE OF AT LEAST 15 MPH SURFACE WINDS /WITH HIGHER GUSTS/
EXISTS ACROSS THE ELEVATED AREA.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0241 AM CDT WED MAY 06 2015/

...SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO AMPLIFY OVER THE SOUTHWEST...WHILE
AN UPPER RIDGE PERSISTS ACROSS THE ERN CONUS. A PERSISTENT BELT OF
STRONGER LOW-MIDLEVEL WLYS WILL SHIFT OFFSHORE ACROSS NRN NEW
ENGLAND...BUT AN ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER RISK WILL STILL EXIST ACROSS
NRN MAINE AS DRY OFFSHORE FLOW CONTINUES. SFC WINDS WILL INCREASE
ACROSS PARTS OF NM AS A LEE SFC LOW DEVELOPS OVER THE SRN HIGH
PLAINS AND STRONGER FLOW ALOFT ENTERS THE REGION...BUT RECENT
WETTING RAINFALL SHOULD MITIGATE FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.

...NRN MAINE...
WINDS ARE FORECAST TO GENERALLY BE WEAKER COMPARED TO WED/D1 AS A
NRN STREAM SHORTWAVE TROUGH AND ACCOMPANYING BELT OF STRONGER WLYS
ALOFT ACCELERATE EWD. HOWEVER...SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS AROUND 15 MPH
AND OCCASIONAL GUSTS TO 30 MPH WILL STILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE
EARLY AFTERNOON. THE OFFSHORE WINDS WILL ALSO MAINTAIN A DRY AIR
MASS OVER THE REGION WHILE TEMPERATURES WARM INTO THE 70S...WITH RH
VALUES AS LOW AS THE UPPER TEENS POSSIBLE. GIVEN MULTIPLE PRECEDING
DAYS OF DRY CONDITIONS...AN ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER THREAT APPEARS
PROBABLE.
