THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON IN EASTERN COLORADO

ALONG INTERSTATE 70 FROM WEST CENTRAL INTO CENTRAL KANSAS. A STRONG
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH PROGRESSED FROM EASTERN COLORADO INTO WESTERN
KANSAS LATE TODAY, AND A SURFACE LOW MOVED FROM NEAR THE COLORADO

LEVEL TROUGH AND SURFACE HEATING SUPPORTED THE DEVELOPMENT OF
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGHOUT WESTERN AND CENTRAL KANSAS. A
STATIONARY FRONT EXTENDING ACROSS NORTHERN KANSAS WAS THE FOCUS OF
THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. HAIL UP TO THE SIZE OF
BASEBALLS FELL IN NORTHEAST ELLIS COUNTY, AND TORNADOES WERE
REPORTED IN NORTHEAST ELLIS AND RUSSELL COUNTIES. BRIEF LANDSPOUT
TORNADOES ALSO OCCURRED IN EASTERN WICHITA AND SOUTHERN SCOTT
COUNTIES.

HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON VARIED FROM THE MID 60S IN EASTERN
KANSAS TO THE LOWER 80S IN THE SOUTHWEST PART OF THE STATE. WINDS
WERE FROM THE SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST AT 15 TO 25 MPH MOST OF THE
AFTERNOON, BECOMING NORTH THIS EVENING BEHIND THE SURFACE LOW. SKIES
WERE PARTLY CLOUDY.

THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IN WESTERN KANSAS WILL MOVE INTO MISSOURI
SATURDAY, AND THE SURFACE LOW WILL BE NEAR ST. LOUIS BY EARLY
SATURDAY AFTERNOON. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BUILD INTO THE
CENTRAL PLAINS SATURDAY, AND RELATIVELY QUIESCENT WEATHER WILL
PREVAIL. LOWS TONIGHT WILL RANGE FROM THE MID 40S IN EASTERN
COLORADO TO THE UPPER 50S IN SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND CENTRAL
OKLAHOMA. HIGHS SATURDAY WILL VARY FROM THE MID 60S IN NORTHEAST
KANSAS AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA TO NEAR 80 IN SOUTHWEST KANSAS AND THE
UPPER 80S IN SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA.

AN UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL DEVELOP IN THE SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES
SUNDAY AND WILL MOVE ACROSS OKLAHOMA EARLY NEXT WEEK. SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED TO RETURN TO EASTERN
COLORADO AND WESTERN KANSAS SUNDAY, AND WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR IN OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHERN KANSAS MONDAY AND
MONDAY NIGHT.
