FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
835 AM PDT WED APR 1 2015

...COOL AND UNSETTLED PATTERN CONTINUES TODAY...
...SOME IMPROVEMENT THURSDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A COLD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL RESIDE OVER
THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THROUGH TODAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN BELOW
THE CASCADE PASSES. THE COLDER AND UNSTABLE AIR ALOFT WILL ALSO
RESULT IN A CONTINUED THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS AND SMALL HAIL IN
HEAVIER SHOWERS. EXPECT A BRIEF BREAK THURSDAY...FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER
ROUND OF WET AND UNSETTLED CONDITIONS FRIDAY THROUGH EARLY NEXT
WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...A COLD UPPER TROUGH WILL BE THE MAIN WEATHER FEATURE
TODAY. EXPECT SIMILAR CONDITIONS TO THOSE OF YESTERDAY. SNOW LEVELS
ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN AROUND 3000 FEET TODAY...WITH SEVERAL INCHES
OF NEW SNOW AT AND ABOVE THE CASCADE PASSES. THE COLD AND UNSTABLE
AIR ALOFT WILL ALSO HELP THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. SMALL HAIL CAN BE
EXPECTED IN HEAVIER SHOWERS. A SHORT-LIVED RIDGE MOVES OVER THE AREA
THURSDAY PROVIDING SOME IMPROVEMENT. HOWEVER...ANOTHER COLD UPPER
TROUGH WILL IMPACT THE FORECAST AREA FRIDAY THROUGH THE
WEEKEND...WITH SNOW LEVELS WELL BELOW THE CASCADE PASSES. LONGER
RANGE CHARTS SHOW THE UNSETTLED PATTERN PERSISTING EARLY NEXT WEEK.
