AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA
622 AM CDT SUN APR 26 2015

.SHORT TERM /TODAY/...
ISSUED AT 322 AM CDT SUN APR 26 2015

HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE WILL BUILD INTO IA FROM THE NORTH TODAY WITH
CLOUD FIELD BEING ERODED GRADUALLY AS DRIER AIR SPREADS SOUTHWEST.
EXPECT MOST OF THE CLOUDS TO BE SOUTHWEST OF THE CWA BY MID
MORNING. TEMPS TODAY WILL WARMER WITH THE SUNSHINE...BUT STILL A
LITTLE BELOW NORMAL. OTHERWISE...WEATHER WILL BE QUITE TODAY OTHER
THAN SOME AREAS OF FROST ACROSS THE NORTH WHERE IT CLEARED
OVERNIGHT.

.LONG TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
ISSUED AT 322 AM CDT SUN APR 26 2015

MAIN FORECAST CONCERN OVER THE EXTENDED CONTINUED TO BE FOCUSED
ON TEMPERATURES AS THE WEATHER PATTERN THIS WEEK REMAINS FAIRLY
BENIGN. NO MAJOR CHANGES WITH ONGOING FORECAST. ONLY A COUPLE
CONCERNS WITH REGARD TO PRECIPITATION THIS WEEK WITH THE FIRST
POTENTIAL LATE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. THE ECMWF BRINGS A VERY
WEAK SHORTWAVE ACROSS THE STATE AND HAS BEEN FAIRLY CONSISTENT
WITH THIS SOLUTION. HOWEVER...SYSTEM REMAINS MOISTURE STARVED WITH
THE LARGE UPPER LOW OVER THE SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY
CUTTING OFF ANY SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE FEED FROM THE GULF.
ATTM...LEFT FORECAST DRY EVEN THOUGH GFS SHOWING SIGNS OF A WEAK
SYSTEM AS WELL TUESDAY NIGHT. LATER IN THE WEEK...BOTH THE
GFS/ECMWF DEPICT EITHER A CLIPPER SYSTEM OR WEAK UPPER LEVEL
SHORTWAVE ON FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. BUT AGAIN...MOISTURE REMAINS
LIMITED AND ONLY HAVE SLIGHT TO LOW CHANCE POPS GOING ON FRIDAY.

OTHER CONCERN IS FROST POTENTIAL ACROSS THE NORTH EARLY MONDAY
MORNING WITH THE LARGE SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVERHEAD ALLOWING FOR
A DECENT RADIATIONAL COOLING EVENT TO SET UP. TWEAKED MINIMUM
TEMPS DOWN SLIGHTLY IN THIS AREA AND MENTIONED PATCH FROST AFTER
09Z.

WENT ABOVE GUIDANCE FOR TEMPERATURES...PARTICULARLY THE MAXIMUM
TEMPS THROUGHOUT THE WORK WEEK EVEN THOUGH THE FORECAST AREA
REMAINS IN NORTH TO NORTHEAST FLOW AT THE SURFACE THROUGH MID
WEEK. WITH THE SUN ANGLE AND ENOUGH MIXING...CONFIDENT TEMPS
SHOULD RISE INTO THE 70S BY TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. EVEN WARMER BY
THURSDAY INTO SATURDAY WITH WITH 850MB TEMPERATURES WARMING TO
+12C AND SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT RETURNING BY THURSDAY.
