HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS NORTH CENTRAL RIVER FORECAST CENTER TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN

...PRECIPITATION...

DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS UP TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN FELL OVER SOUTHERN
LOWER MICHIGAN AND NORTHERN INDIANA.  UP TO A HALF INCH FELL OVER
WISCONSIN.. SOUTHEASTERN MINNESOTA.. NORTHERN IOWA AND THE EASTERN
DAKOTAS.

THE WEATHER PATTERN WILL REMAIN ACTIVE ACROSS THE CONTIGUOUS U.S.
THROUGH THE SHORT RANGE FORECAST PERIOD. AN UPPER-LEVEL
DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE FROM COLORADO THIS MORNING NORTHEASTWARD
INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY THIS EVENING. AT THE SAME TIME A COLD
FRONT WILL CROSS THE NORTHERN INTERMOUNTAIN STATES THIS MORNING
BEFORE MOVING INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY THIS EVENING. MOIST AND
UNSTABLE AIR WILL CONTINUE TO STREAM NORTHWARD ACROSS THE CENTRAL
U.S. AIDED BY THE UPPER-LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND A DRY LINE AT THE
SURFACE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL ONCE AGAIN BE WIDESPREAD
TODAY ACROSS THE CENTRAL U.S. FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS NORTHWARD
TO THE CANADIAN BORDER. THIS GENERAL WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE
INTO THURSDAY.. ALBEIT SHIFTED SOMEWHAT EASTWARD WITH SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ONCE AGAIN FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS NORTHWARD TO THE
MIDWEST.

DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS WE ARE EXPECTING UP TO AN INCH OF RAIN
OVER NORTH DAKOTA.. OTHERWISE.. THIS PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN WEST OF OUR SERVICE AREA.

HOWEVER.. THIS SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS OUR AREA ON THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY DROPPING UP TO 3/4 OF AN INCH OF RAIN OVER THE REST OF OUR
SERVICE AREA.


...HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS...

MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING ON THE SOURIS RIVER IN NORTH
DAKOTA AT TOWNER AND BANTRY. RECENT RAINFALL HAS
CREATED MOSTLY IN BANK RISES THROUGH OUT THE CENTRAL
NCRFC REGION AND ONLY DEWITT ON THE WAPSIPINICON RIVER
HAS EXCEEDED FLOOD ISSUANCE STAGE.

IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL IS EXPECTED OVER
NORTH DAKOTA WHICH COULD KEEP TOWNER AND BANTRY ABOVE FLOOD
STAGE FOR SOME TIME. WHILE RAIN IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS FOR MUCH THE NCRFC AREA IT WILL MORE THAN A COUPLE
OF INCHES OF RAINFALL TO CREATE MORE THAN MINOR SMALL STREAM
FLOODING.

THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR INDICATES MODERATE DROUGHT CONDITIONS
CURRENTLY IN EASTERN DAKOTAS...MINNESOTA...AND NORTHERN
WISCONSIN. FOR MUCH OF NORTHWEAST MINNESOTA THERE IS A SEVERE SHORT
AND LONG TERM DROUGHT.
