HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE
NWS CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER HONOLULU HI

BASED ON DATA THROUGH 1800 UTC APRIL 18 2015

WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A POSITIVELY-TILTED UPPER LEVEL TROUGH
WITH AN AXIS FROM 26N140W TO 19N153W. THIS TROUGH IS SLOWLY MOVING
TOWARDS THE EAST. A NARROW 150 MILE WIDE BAND OF CIRRUS CLOUDS ARE
LOCATED ALONG THE SOUTHERN END OF THE UPPER TROUGH COVERING A LINE
FROM 10N159W TO 17N140W.

A EAST-NORTHEAST TO WEST-SOUTHWEST ORIENTED COLD FRONT OVER THE
NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE CENTRAL PACIFIC BASIN. THESE OVERCAST
CUMULUS CLOUDS COVER THE AREA FROM MIDWAY ATOLL TO 30N180W.

HIGH PRESSURE NEAR 39N140W IS DRIVING EASTERLY TRADE WINDS ACROSS
THE CENTRAL PACIFIC. THE WINDS ARE CARRYING BROKEN TO OVERCAST
STRATOCUMULUS CLOUDS AROUND 20 MPH COVERING NORTH OF 20N AND EAST OF
145W. THE REMAINDER OF THE CENTRAL PACIFIC IS COVERED WITH SCATTERED
CUMULUS CLOUDS.

ACROSS THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS...ALL LEEWARD SIDES OF THE ISLANDS
ARE SUNNY TO MOSTLY SUNNY THIS MORNING. WINDWARD SIDES OF
KAUAI...OAHU...MOLOKAI...AND MAUI HAVE SCATTERED TO BROKEN LOW
CLOUDS. ON THE BIG ISLAND...BROKEN CLOUDS ARE LOCATED JUST OFFSHORE
OF THE HAMAKUA COAST...BUT THE REST OF THE ISLAND IS SUNNY. LANAI IS
ALSO SUNNY THIS MORNING.
