AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE POCATELLO ID
227 AM MDT SUN APR 19 2015

.SHORT TERM...TODAY THROUGH TUE NIGHT. UPPER LEVEL RIDGE CONTINUES
WITH AXIS TO THE WEST OF IDAHO AT FIRST. BY TUE...THE UPPER LEVEL
RIDGE AXIS HAS MOVED TO THE WESTERN BORDER OF THE GEM STATE...BUT
THERE IS A WEAK IMPULSE MOVING THROUGH THE RIDGE THAT APPEARS TO
BRING SOME CLOUDINESS AND POTENTIAL SHOWERS WHEN AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING ARRIVES. THE UPPER LEVEL NORTHWESTERLY FLOW AFTER
THE DRY COLD FRONT OF LAST SAT WILL USHER IN SOME COOLER AIR THAT
WILL MODIFY UNDER THE HIGH WITH THE STRONG SUNSHINE. TEMPERATURES
SHOULD CONTINUE ABOVE TO WELL ABOVE NORMAL...WITH SNAKE RIVER
PLAIN HIGHS REACHING INTO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 70S. OVERNIGHT LOWS
WILL BE RIGHT AROUND NORMAL WITH THE MAINLY CLEAR LATE NIGHTS. AS
LONG AS THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE REMAINS CLOSE...SEE NO STRONG WIND
DURING THE NEAR TERM FORECAST PERIODS. MESSICK

.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW A
LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DIGGING INTO THE SOUTHWESTERN U.S. DURING THE
LONG TERM. THIS SYSTEM WILL PUMP MOISTURE INTO THE AREA WITH GOOD
CHANCES FOR AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE REGION NEARLY EACH
DAY. EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN WARM AND ABOVE NORMAL DURING
THIS TIME.
