CLIMATE REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BOISE ID
1048 AM MDT WED APR 1 2015

...WARMEST MARCH EVER AT THE BOISE AIR TERMINAL...

IN THE BOISE AREA SINCE 1900 ONLY MARCH 1934 WAS WARMER.

MARCH "CAME IN LIKE A LION"...BREEZY AND COOL. THERE WAS EVEN A
TRACE OF SNOW ON THE 1ST. NORTHERLY FLOW ALOFT TRANSPORTED COOL
CANADIAN AIR FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA INTO SOUTHWEST IDAHO...
ACCOMPANIED BY NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO NEARLY 30 MPH ON THE 2ND
AND 3RD. BUT TEMPERATURES FOR THE FIRST FOUR DAYS OF THE MONTH
AVERAGED ONLY AROUND 5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE HARDCORE ARCTIC AIR
INVADING THE PLAINS STATES WAS UNABLE TO PUSH AS FAR WEST AS BOISE.

TEMPERATURES QUICKLY MODERATED AS A WARM UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BECAME
ESTABLISHED OVER THE COAST BY THE 6TH. THE RIDGE DOMINATED THE
WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH...WITH ONLY BRIEF INTERRUPTIONS.

TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE AVERAGE FROM THE 6TH THROUGH THE 17TH...AND
FROM THE 26TH THROUGH THE 30TH. OVERNIGHT LOWS WERE UNUSUALLY MILD.
THE LOW OF 52 ON THE 14TH SET A NEW RECORD FOR THE DATE. AT THE
AIRPORT LOWS FELL TO 32 DEGREES ONLY TWICE FROM THE 7TH THROUGH THE
END OF THE MONTH.

PACIFIC MOISTURE WAS ABLE TO CREST THE RIDGE OVER THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST STATES ON THE 14TH THROUGH THE 17TH BRINGING BOISE ONLY
LIGHT AMOUNTS OF RAIN.

ON THE 23RD AND 24TH A PAIR OF WEATHER SYSTEMS FROM THE GULF OF
ALASKA PROVIDED MOST OF THE SPARSE MARCH RAINFALL. THE TWO-DAY TOTAL
AT THE AIRPORT WAS OVER A THIRD OF AN INCH...MOSTLY FALLING ON THE
24TH. IT WAS BY FAR THE MOST RAIN BOISE HAD SEEN SINCE FEBRUARY 9TH.

WEST WINDS GUSTING TO 41 MPH ON THE 23RD AND 31 MPH ON THE 24TH
ACCOMPANIED MUCH COOLER AIR...DROPPING DAYTIME HIGHS BY 15 DEGREES.

THE HIGH 77 AT THE AIRPORT ON BOTH THE 27TH AND 30TH WAS MORE
TYPICAL OF EARLY JUNE THAN LATE MARCH. AT OTHER LOCATIONS AROUND
BOISE LOWER 80S WERE OBSERVED ON THE THOSE DAYS.

STRONG PACIFIC COLD FRONTS FOLLOWED BOTH WARM DAYS...WITH NORTHWEST
WINDS GUSTING TO 46 MPH ON THE 28TH AND 43 MPH ON THE 31ST.
