...HEAVY WET SNOW TO POSSIBLY IMPACT TRAVEL MONDAY ACROSS PARTS
OF THE ANCHORAGE AND MATANUSKA-SUSITNA BOROUGHS...

SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL IMPACTS IN THE FORM OF SLICK ROADS AND
SIDEWALKS ARE POSSIBLE MONDAY ACROSS THE ANCHORAGE BOWL AND
HILLSIDE AS A STRONG COLD FRONT PUSHES NORTH UP COOK INLET. SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BETWEEN 6 AM AND 6 PM...WITH
HIGHEST AMOUNTS ALONG THE HILLSIDE.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON THE INTENSITY AND
DURATION OF THE SNOW EVENT. BECAUSE OF RELATIVELY WARM
SURFACE TEMPERATURES...SNOWFALL RATES WILL HAVE TO EXCEED 1 INCH
PER HOUR IN ORDER TO OVERCOME SURFACE MELTING. HOWEVER...ONCE (OR
IF) MELTING IS OVERCOME BY THE SNOWFALL INTENSITY...IT IS LIKELY
TO ACCUMULATE AT A SIGNIFICANT RATE. THIS MAY RESULT IN HIGH
VARIABILITY OF SNOW AMOUNTS ACROSS ANCHORAGE AND VICINITY.

THERE IS LOWER CONFIDENCE AS TO HOW MUCH SNOW MAY FALL ACROSS
PARTS OF THE MAT-SU BOROUGH...AS A LOT DEPENDS ON THE NATURE OF
THE INTENSE SNOW BAND THAT IS ANTICIPATED TO DEVELOP INITIALLY
OVER ANCHORAGE. THE CURRENT THINKING IS THAT THE MATANUSKA VALLEY
WILL SEE SNOW AMOUNTS GENERALLY UP TO 1 INCH...WHILE LOCATIONS
ALONG THE SUSITNA VALLEY MAY SEE ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 4 INCHES.
AGAIN...IMPACTS ON AREA ROADS AND SIDEWALKS WILL BE HIGHLY
DEPENDENT ON THE INTENSITY AND DURATION OF THIS SNOW EVENT.

TRAVELERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE EXTRA CAUTION DURING THIS WEATHER
EVENT.
