THE PARTIAL DESTRUCTION OF A METAL STORAGE BUILDING AND SNAPPED LIGHT
POLES AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT THE INTERSECTION OF 4TH ST AND SHORELINE
DRIVE ACROSS FROM LC WALKER ARENA...AND TREE DAMAGE/MINOR ROOF DAMAGE
TO ONE HOUSE NEAR OCTAVIUS AND WOOD STREETS WERE RATED AS STRAIGHT
LINE WIND DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH EF-0 WIND SPEEDS. THE DAMAGE IS BELIEVED
TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE INTERACTION OF ISOLATED STRAIGHT LINE WIND
GUSTS OCCURRING ALONG A WEAKENING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY PROGRESSING EAST
WITH WEAKER CONVECTIVE SHOWERS MOVING RAPIDLY TO THE NORTHEAST. THE
TWO DAMAGE AREAS ARE 1.3 MILES FROM EACH OTHER AND THE DAMAGE IS BELIEVED
TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY TWO SEPARATE AND DISTINCT WIND GUSTS OCCURRING
ALONG THE LEADING EDGE OF THE OUTFLOW.

THE METAL STORAGE BUILDING IS LOCATED NEAR LC WALKER ARENA. THE BUILDING
ROOF BLEW OFF AND THE BACK WALL COLLAPSED. A GARAGE DOOR ON THE WEST SIDE
OF THE BUILDING WAS ALSO BLOWN IN AND THE WEST SIDE PARTIALLY COLLAPSED
INTO THE BUILDING. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE GARAGE DOOR WAS BLOWN IN
FIRST...OVERLOADING THE ROOF TRUSSES WHICH THEN DETACHED CAUSING THE ROOF
TO LIFT AND LAND IN THE INTERSECTION. THE WEST WALL WAS PULLED IN AND THE
BACK WALL PULLED DOWN TO THE EAST AS THE ROOF WAS TORN OFF THE BUILDING.
THE ROOF TOOK DOWN SEVERAL TRAFFIC SIGNAL POLES AND SIGNAGE WHEN IT LANDED
IN THE INTERSECTION. THE SPRAY PATTERN WAS DIVERGENT AND THERE WAS LITTLE
DEBRIS IN THE WAY OF INSULATION EVIDENT MORE THAN A COUPLE HUNDRED YARDS
DOWNSTREAM. VERY LITTLE IF ANY DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED WITH ANY ADJACENT
STRUCTURES.

NEAR OCTAVIUS AND WOOD...SEVERAL LARGE TREES SNAPPED WITH ONE PARTIALLY
UPROOTED. THERE WAS ALSO ONE HOUSE WITH A ROW OF SHINGLES BENT UP ALONG
A RIDGE VENT. THE TREES WERE OLD WITH SIGNIFICANT TRUNK/BRANCH ROT
(PARTIALLY HOLLOW CORES). SEVERAL OF THE TREES FELL ON WIRES BRINGING
THEM DOWN AS WELL. THE DAMAGE OCCURRED OVER AN ELLIPTICALLY SHAPED AREA
ROUGHLY 150 YARDS WIDE BY 300 YARDS LONG.

NOTE:
THE INFORMATION IN THIS STATEMENT IS PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO
CHANGE PENDING FINAL REVIEW OF THE EVENT AND PUBLICATION IN
