HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS NORTH CENTRAL RIVER FORECAST CENTER TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN
1120 AM CDT SAT MAY 2 2015

...PRECIPITATION...

DURING THE LAST 24 HOURS A COLD FRONT TRIGGERED SOME SHOWERS FROM
WESTERN IOWA TO NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA. PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS
WERE LESS THAN A QUARTER INCH.

A RELATIVELY QUIET WEATHER PATTERN WILL BE IN PLACE ACROSS THE
CONTIGUOUS U.S. THROUGH THE WEEKEND. UPPER-LEVEL FLOW ACROSS THE
COUNTRY WILL BE ZONAL AND THE MOST SIGNIFICANT UPPER-LEVEL
DISTURBANCES WILL MOVE ALONG THE U.S./CANADA BORDER. A COLD FRONT
ASSOCIATED WITH ONE OF THESE DISTURBANCES WILL CROSS THE NORTHERN
INTERMOUNTAIN WEST TODAY AND REACH THE NORTHERN PLAINS BY TONIGHT.
AS THE FRONT APPROACHES THE UPPER MIDWEST LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY
SUNDAY MORNING AND TAPS INTO A BETTER INFLOW OF MOISTURE AND
INSTABILITY.. A MORE WIDESPREAD AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP AND MOVE THROUGH OUR SERVICE AREA DURING
THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE IN ASSOCIATION WITH THESE
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS WE ARE
EXPECTING LESS THAN A QUARTER INCH ALONG THE MINNESOTA/DAKOTAS
BORDER AND IOWA. DAYS 2 AND 3 OF THE QPF ARE SHOWING THE
POSSIBILITY FOR OVER AN INCH OF PRECIPTATION IN SOUTHERN
MINNESOTA.. WISCONSIN.. IOWA AND NORTHERN ILLINOIS.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE ABOVE AVERAGE THROUGH SUNDAY ACROSS MUCH OF
THE NATION WITH THE EXCEPTION FOR THE SOUTHEAST.. LOWER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.. AND GULF COAST. ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS
AND UPPER MIDWEST TEMPERATURES WILL BE 15 TO 20 DEGREES ABOVE
AVERAGE WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY AND SUNDAY REACHING WELL
INTO THE 80S IN MANY AREAS.

...HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS...

MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING ALONG THE SOURIS RIVER IN NORTH
DAKOTA AT TOWNER...BANTRY AND WESTHOPE. THE SOURIS WILL
REMAIN AT ELEVATED FLOWS FOR SOME TIME AND ANY SIGNIFICANT
RAINFALL COULD PUSH LEVELS TO MODERATE FLOODING AGAIN.

THE U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR INDICATES MODERATE DROUGHT CONDITIONS
CURRENTLY IN EASTERN DAKOTAS...MINNESOTA...AND NORTHERN
WISCONSIN. THIS CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE AT LEAST FOR THE NEAR
FUTURE.
